What Employers Look for in a Spa Manager
A spa manager is responsible for people (staff), product (treatments and retail), and profit (revenue targets). The interview will probe all three dimensions.
Leadership & Team Questions
- "Tell me about a time you resolved a conflict between two team members." — Use the STAR method. Show empathy and outcome orientation.
- "How do you motivate a team that is underperforming?" — Mention individual check-ins, identifying root causes, setting clear goals and celebrating small wins.
Revenue & Business Questions
- "How do you increase retail revenue?" — Training therapists to recommend products at the right moment, visible product placement and incentive structures.
- "What is your experience with spa scheduling software?" — Name specific tools (Mindbody, Booker, Opera).
- "How do you reduce no-shows?" — Confirmation calls/messages, clear cancellation policies, deposit for peak bookings.
Guest Experience Questions
- "How would you handle a serious guest complaint about a treatment?" — Listen, apologise without excuses, compensate appropriately, document for training purposes.
