Why Practical Interviews Happen
Unlike most jobs, spa roles require hands-on skill. A well-written CV can only tell an employer so much — they need to see your technique, hygiene standards and ability to make a guest feel comfortable.
What to Expect
You will typically be asked to perform a 20–45 minute treatment. Common treatments assessed: Swedish full-body massage, foot reflexology, facial with extractions, head massage.
How to Prepare
- Practice on family and friends in the 2 weeks before your interview. Muscle memory matters.
- Know your draping. Poor draping is an instant red flag.
- Confirm your technique sequence. Every modality has an accepted sequence — don't improvise.
- Bring your own kit if possible. Shows professionalism.
- Ask about pressure preferences at the start — this shows strong consultation skills.
Common Mistakes That Fail Candidates
- Inconsistent pressure and rhythm
- Dirty nails or jewellery on hands
- No opening or closing ritual
- Skipping the consultation
